Life in Alaska Update 4: Our house overlooks the breakwaters of one of the busiest harbor systems in the state of Alaska. Yachts, Trollers, Skiffs, Tugs, Seiners, Charter Boats, Gillnetters, Crabbers, Sporties, Sailboats, Barges, Tenders.. the list goes on! Our first impression was that pretty much everyone who lived here owned a boat (mostly true) and knew how to operate one (also mostly true). The 3 main categories are Commercial Fisherman, Sport Fisherman, and Charter Fisherman.

Life is Alaska Update 3: Although I’ve always been interested in fishing, I wasn’t a very experienced or talented fly fisherman when we moved to Sitka. So my answer to the job offer was an honest one; “Me? A fishing guide? I don’t know the first thing about how or where to catch fish around here.” The response was classic (and also true); “We’ll teach you what you need to know and you’ll figure out the rest.”

Life in Alaska Update 2: The first image here is right around the time I made up my mind that @granolie12 was an amazing woman. That, and the next move was to spend all of my savings to move to Alaska with a Tinder match that I’d only been dating a few months. Specifically, the move would be to a tiny town that I’d never even been to, on an Island completely surrounded by wilderness in Southeast Alaska. I’m pretty fond of saying that I don’t know what I ever did to get so lucky - but there’s all kinds of relevant sayings. “When you know, you know.” or maybe “When opportunity knocks, open the door.”

Life in Alaska Update 1: Wow, so it’s been quite a while since I’ve shared much of anything about work or life - so here it goes. We got dogs!

Hey Sitka! I’ll be at Harbor Mountain Brewing Company today, Feb 11, from 1-5.

I’m back home with a new truck, new work, new plaster slabs and molds, new glazes, new research, and most importantly - new energy and enthusiasm!
